Well, i am feeling really demoralize now. Took me awhile to figure out the exact tool in wordpress to upload pictures.
OMG! Now i know how lousy and inconvenient it is to lose out to the more tech-savvy people—– for that i mean Ryan Leslie (R&B/hip-hop producer). Anyone heard of his name ever before? hopefully you did, cause guess what? this guy actually leverage on our very very favorite social media (e.g. youtube, facebook, twitter) tools to make himself a superstar!
“Crap or what.. if it is this easy to be one.. i would have been one long before you were born.” this must have being your thought for that very split second right? haha.. let me show you a more in-depth picture of this superstar’s life.
There you go.. Ryan Leslie looking amateurish in Harvard University
and
him looking dashing with his “permanent” sun glass today
And yes. let me re-assure you. this superstar graduated from Harvard University with a degree in Economics and Government at 19 years of age. Impressive to say the least! Here is a short video introduction should you not be familiar with his work:
Now for something which i felt was unlucky for him.
Leslie had previously signed a contract with giant label Universal Recordings but did not receive proper marketing support. maybe this was what inspired him to create a youtube account where he began posting his music videos, behind the scenes footage in the recording studio, and an inside look into his day-to-day adventures as a young record producer. Sounds interesting aren’t it? Here are some videos about his behind the scenes plays ( its only 5 mins of your time)
its utterly splendid..
and this, showing you how he did one of his songs.. seriously cool stuff.
and so.. Leslie continues to build his name through social media tools such as his personal website RyanLeslie.com. In there, he posts all his personal thoughts, videos and more! He even shares his personal cell phone number and email address. Sound too good to be true right? Well, he is the first singer i ever heard giving phone numbers to “strangers”.
You can also try to opt in to receive communications from Leslie personally. My god, now this is the insane part. do you know that this SUPERSTAR actually invites you to shows, hear new music he is working on and talks to you on the PHONE. HAHA.. I doubted this the very moment i saw that. but…… let me tell you this, wait till you go to his website..
Alright and so apparently, this awesome guy is shaping the music industry through the use of social media tools, which i thought is something really smart and innovative.
Besides, his Twitter account and Facebook updates are integrated into the site thus users without those account could view as well. And do you know each of his posts can generate up to 150+ comments, which goes to show his popularity amongst people.
woo.. interesting to know that ya? so what are you waiting for? Follow him on Twitter at @ryanleslie now now now..
World renowned Oxford Dictionary released its Word of the year 2009 and guess what? This year’s winner is a word most of us would probably know: unfriend. As for those of you who are still clueless as to what exactly is ” unfriend”. do not worry. here’s the definition. unfriend – verb – To remove someone as a ‘friend’ on a social networking site such as Facebook.
Sounds familiar isn’t?
here are some of the other words that were discussed/considered for the Word of the Year as well.
- Hashtag
- Netbook
- Intexticated
- Sexting
All of which are words found under the umbrella of “Technologies“. Well, at a digital age like this. Its actually not surprising why these words topped the chart. Maybe technology is already ahead of everything else in the world.
I felt that this is a rather controversial topic to be discussed. Goggle is a tool that has being with us since the day we were born. It has assisted us in umpteen project works in terms of researches. Even primary school kid today uses Google as a fundamental research tool for projects. (I wouldn’t say internet helped me a lot during my primary school times, because I believe the internet’s database during the past isn’t as huge as today.)
Why do we use it so often?
Technology
Well all I can say is that technology today has really played a vital role in influencing users’ mindsets. Everyday, every hour we get informed or updated on new devices, new technology that are continuously adding into our life.
Convenience
People nowadays are getting increasingly impatient; all tasks/assignment must be completed as soon as possible, sometimes even BEFORE the dateline. If not they are sure to create a big fuss out of everything.
“Impatience seems to be a growing trend as well. Before, we used to only worry about road rage now we have to worry about phone rage, internet rage, and computer rage.”
But one thing I cannot deny, I haven’t being visiting the library for whoever-knows how long. Ok let’s be frank for now… Who does? Why? Because we are all dwell in the world of convenience- World Wide Web (www). Where everything is slated nicely, filtered, summarized and arranged , all according to your needs.
Besides, the amount of time we spend to get information online is so much faster than searching through shelves in libraries. In www, everything pops up instantaneously.
Also, the user-friendly Google toolbar has facilitated us so greatly in researches. Love it!
All in all, Google I felt is an importance tool that offers “feasibility” in our daily lives. But is it really making us dumber? Well, I believe everyone has their own views and opinions with regards to this. There’s hardly any impartial answer to it.
Hmm.. oh well, hopefully this is not true at all.. ciaos fellows!
Tutorial today was mainly about proving whether msn or skype is the better choice for overseas calls or video calling. Marcus’s presentation was funny.. wenting and him kept emphasizing that Skype has got better connection (way more faster) and were trying all means (getting Jia hui to go out of class just to do the video call- but failed hahahahah) to prove to Ms Kwa that Skype’s video call is clearer, easier and has a smoother experience as compared to MSN video calls.
But at the end of the day, i think i still got influenced by them. They had successfully convinced me into creating a Skype account. whoos..
And it was then followed by Sally’s presentation on Podcast.. from her, i got to know that many companies are actually made use of Podcast to create traffic to their sites. hmm.. sounds cool isn’t. its becoming a trend to marketers as well.
besides, podcast comes to you automatically once you have subscripted to the site, (e.g Mr brown show, Happy Tree Friends) or maybe install a particular program, like iTunes..
the only thing which was missed out during lesson i thought was a short hands on session on how to create a podcast as i believe most of my classmates would take interest in how to create one for themselves. as it could mean good and useful in the future when we enter the workforce.
